What is Financial Planning Advice?

We advise based on what we would do, were we in your shoes, given what we know.

Financial Planning Advice is NOT the broking or the sale of a financial product.  When we say broking we mean the transaction of financial products such as an investment arrangement that you instigate.  For example, you want to buy an ISA so your "adviser" provides you with the "best" ISA fund - this is almost like placing car or house insurance.

When we say sale we mean that the product sale is the thing at the front of the "adviser's" head when you are in front of him/her.  True advice requires the focus to be only what is best for you.

Financial Planning Advice is about creating strategies and structures to enable you to attain financial independence if you're not already there.  Financial independence can be defined as a position when you work because you want to, not because you have to.

If you have already attained financial independence - congratulations!  Financial Planning Advice will aim to ensure you retain your wealth and apply it optimally to meet your lifestyle needs and wants.

Financial Planning involves understanding intimately where you are now and where you want to arrive at.  Then, we put together the strategy which is bespoke for you to take you there.  It may involve reducing your taxes, optimising your investment and pension holdings or ensuring your financial assets are more focussed on achieving your personal objectives.  It may well involve the establishing or altering of financial arrangements.

Then and only then does your planner consider products needed to take you there.  Products are a means to an end objective not the end itself.

A Chartered Financial Planner will help you achieve your objectives.
